Hello, and welcome to a new Music Jam Monday. Today I want to talk about Dodie’s EP Intertwined. For some reason I have recently fallen head-over-heels for it (or you could say I’m absolutely smitten). Here are some thoughts that I have on all the songs. Enjoy!
I adore this song, especially because of the music video. The song is very lovely, but the weird, wackiness of the video elevates it to the next level. It’s a great song. (Sidenote: the video also inspired the visuals for the visual poem I helped create “Battlegrounds.”)
Favorite lyric: “But we can stay here, and laugh away the fear.” (I need some help because I definitely thought she was saying love away the fear, but it might just be her accent? So I think it’s actually laugh? But I don’t know?)
“I Have A Hole In My Tooth (And My Dentist Is Shut)”
This is the weirdest, cutest song ever. I adore the quirkiness of it, and the oddity of the lyrics.
Favorite lyric: “Maybe this is a sign that I’m all out of luck, not that I had much of that in my life before.”
I am absolutely smitten with this song. It might be the cutest gosh darn thing I’ve ever listened to. I love this song. That’s it. I love it. It makes my heart feel so happy.
Favorite lyric: “With cupid’s arrow in her bum.”
This might very well be the best 22 seconds I’ve ever listened to. It is absolutely beautiful and inspiring and incredible.
Favorite lyric: “Fuck it, hurt whilst you can.”
“Sick of Losing Soulmates”
I have re-fallen in love with this song. It is so profound and hauntingly beautiful. It’s just incredible.
Favorite lyric: “A dumb screenshot of youth.”
This is such a lovely song. I’m continually impressed at the depth of Dodie’s lyrics. This sounds like something out of a Disney princess movie (in a good way). I sound like a broken record, but it’s incredible.
Favorite lyric: “I’m waiting to live, and waiting to love. Oh it’ll be over, and I’ll still be asking when.”
