Some of My Favorite Outfits

my favorite outfits

In this blog post, I’m going to look at some of my favorite outfits. This post is in conjunction with my podcast Aspiring Adults, where my friend Johanna and I talk about everything from politics to pop culture. You should definitely check it out if you haven’t already! But, on our last episode, we discussed sustainable fashion and personal fashion. We wanted to share some of our favorite outfits, so this is my blog post! Be sure to check out Jo’s post too! So, let’s jump into three of my favorite outfits! I’ll add links to the clothing items that I can find.

Outfit #1: Summeroutfit 1 summer

This summer, I have been loving black shorts and t-shirts. Honestly, in the past few months I’ve bought waaaaay too many t-shirts. They’re great. The one that I’m wearing in this picture is a Transviolet band t-shirt. I freaking adore this shirt. It fits really well and is super comfortable. The fabric is so soft! The shorts are from H&M. They fit nicely and are comfortable too. My shoes are Rocketdog (I think. I’ve had them for a while). The first time I wore them I got the nastiest blisters. After that fun time, they are some of the most comfortable shoes I own. I definitely have some weird tan lines on my feet from wearing these constantly.

Outfit 2: Summer/Fall

outfit 2

This outfit is kind of summer, kind of fall. I’ve had a couple chillier days (by chilly I mean 80 instead of 90) and I’ve worn pants for a few of those days. But first, my shirt! I love dad shirts so much it’s ridiculous. This one is from Forever 21 (although I can’t find the exact style). It’s so comfortable and roomy. I love it.

I’ve also been into ripped and baggier jeans. These ones are from Express. They are also super comfy (can you tell comfort is a big thing for me?). The only thing I don’t like as much is that they have a million buttons instead of a zipper, which is just a bit annoying. My shoes are Birkenstocks. These are the only shoes I own that have actual arch support. What a concept! Anyway, they’re very comfortable albeit hard to drive in (I usually just take them off).

Outfit 3: Fall

outfit 3 fall

I told you I love dad shirts. This is one of my favorite dad shirts. I thrifted it from Saver’s. It’s got lovely little orange flowers on it and is kind of a soft, corduroy-like fabric. Again, it’s real comfy. My leggings I bought from Amazon. Word of warning: they do tend to fall down A LOT. I usually end up safety-pinning the waistband. I only wear them with long shirts like this that hide the fact that my pants are either falling down or that I have a giant camel toe. But, they look super badass, so I don’t mind. My combat boots I bought from Target a million years ago (it’s been at least 2 years, quite possibly 3 or 4). They are my favorite boots. If you don’t have a pair already, buy yourself some combat boots. You will love them.

BONUS: Back-To-School

I felt like I should include this outfit since it’s somewhat important. This is what I wore on the first day of school this year. You can see the combo of t-shirt/baggier ripped jeans. The shirt is from Sick Girls, and I ABSOLUTELY ADORE ALL OF THEIR CLOTHING. Seriously, check it out, and order yourself something. I want everything in their store. The pants are from Express because that’s where I buy all my pants, and the shoes are Converse.

Let me know what your favorite outfits are! You can tweet me @TheCCUnicorn and be sure to tag @Aspiring_Adults, too!

Marchesa Notte Fall 2017 RTW Collection Review

It seems like it’s been a long time since a long time since I’ve reviewed a designer collection. And I miss it! So, I thought I’d start up again with one of my favorite brands: Marchesa Notte. Every collection they put out I adore. They can do no wrong, and their Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear is no exception.

Marchesa Notte Fall 2017 Ready-to-Wear

The main themes of this collection are silhouettes and florals. Many of the looks stray from your typical sleeve design. The plethora of bell sleeves felt a bit like playing into current fashion trends, but a few pieces really stood out in the sleeve department. I’m particularly a fan of the sleeves on a navy blue ankle-length dress:

As for the florals, there are two looks with lovely brocade-esque fabric that really play up the blue and grey undertones in the fabric used.

Many of the other looks utilize various takes on classic flower patterns. From 3-D flower appliqués to embroidered flowers over sheer dresses, this collection has it all.

Finally, I want to highlight my favorite look – this somewhat space-y bejeweled masterpiece:

If you want to see the full collection, Vogue Runway has all of the looks.

Billboard Music Awards 2017 Fashion Review

Billboard Music Awards

I always seem to be completely oblivious to award shows until they’re happening. Luckily, I have time now while the Billboard Music Awards are happening, so I can review the fashion! Yay!

Hailee Steinfeld

This is quite an interesting choice for a dress. It’s very space amoeba-chique. Or distorted space avocado-chique. Either way, I’m into it.

Jason Derulo

Jason, have you been getting style tips from Harry Styles? I’m not complaining. More men need to rock the green velvet suit. Although I’m not a huge fan of the Prince Charming buttons (fasteners? Whatever’s keeping his jacket together).

Kate Beckinsale

Daaaaaaaang girl! This is a look. If you’re going to have fireworks exploding all over your body, this is the way to do it.

This outfit makes me think of a stripper in a trench coat, but they got tired or bored halfway through and decided to just tie the coat around their waist. Cute!

I have no idea who BTS are, but they are one well-dressed group of lads. They just won the most coveted spot of best-dressed boyband now that One Direction isn’t showing up to any award shows. 🙁

Jessie Paege

I’m not sure what’s happening! But I’m into it! I feel like it’s too warm for a giant coat, which is probably why it’s slinking off her body. But the lavender with her pink hair? Love it!

This outfit is my geometry/origami nightmare come to life. So many places to fold! But you don’t know where to fold them! Time is running out! Or else you’ll end up with weird triangle shapes on your head!

I think that’s all! Honestly the Billboard Music Awards do not have the best fashion. People need to wear some crazier fashion for me to pretend to critique while secretly loving it.

Met Gala 2017 Fashion Review

Met Gala 2017 Review

Another year, another batch of bizarre fashion to review. On Monday night, celebrities stepped out in weird and wacky outfits. That can only mean one thing: the Met Gala. And where there’s weird, wacky outfits, I’m there to review them. Probably poorly. Here we go.

My eyeballs are crying. Oh, did I say crying? I meant bleeding. Quite profusely. No one should wear camouflage unless they’re in the military. And even then, it’s not a good look. It just isn’t. This look is a hard no from me.

DAMN GIRL. Only Rihanna could pull off the glued-a-bunch-of-butterfly-wings-or-possibly-flower-petals-to-your-body look. And her pink highlight? I’m done. This is fabulous.

Do your knees have a terrible tendency to get cold? Do you have to attend a fancy-schmancy party? Well, I’ve got the dress for you! But in all seriousness, I am a fan of this look. I love the colors and the sparkles (and the weird feather knee warmer).

Where was this outfit when I was in Rochester suffering through the cold?!? I’m low-key impressed that she’s not dying from heatstroke. And I want her shoes.

Brb, just need to go cry a river. Seriously, these two are too adorable. And they both look fabulous. I am especially into Selena’s hot pink eyeshadow.

I…am so confused as to what I’m looking at. There’s weird fashion that works, and weird fashion that doesn’t. I think this falls into the latter category, but again, I’m…confused.

Here’s some weird fashion that works. You have to keep it simple and subtle. Like carrying your own hair.

Bella Hadid

I’m pretty sure Bella Hadid tried to come up with the scariest outfit, and this is what she decided on.  I will have nightmares about putting on fishnets that never end, or some sort of fishnet bogeyman that looks like Bella.

I have no idea who this person is but THIS LOOK! I don’t even have a snarky comment I like it so much! This is definitely my favorite outfit that I’ve seen so far.

Kendall Jenner

It’s a true travesty that on such an important evening Kendall’s dress decided to melt off of her. So sad!

Aymeline Valade

Now this is how you do a suit. Bright blue with a weird metallic criss-cross pattern that kind of looks like pineapples if you squint. I love it.

This person looks gorgeous considering that a giant rose-monster is eating her alive.  Is no one worried?!? At least she looks flawless.

I’ve got to end this with Zendaya. What a look. What. a. look. She can do no wrong. Look at the parrots on her dress. Look! I love it! Ah!

This was by no means a complete guide to all of the Met Gala looks. Vogue has a collection of tons of the fashion, if you want to check it out. Be sure to let me know what your favorite look was down in the comments or over on Twitter!

Sidenote – even after all of this, I’m still confused what the theme was supposed to be. Ideas?

Spring Wardrobe Fever

Now, I know I’m jumping the gun a little bit on this. It’s not technically spring for another couple of weeks. But still. I am ready to be rid of chunky sweaters and boots. Bring on the tank tops and short-shorts. And like every spring, I have some serious wardrobe fever.

Unlike most people when spring spells pastel colors and cute floral patterns, whenever spring rolls around, I want to bust out my darkest black lipstick and revamp my entire wardrobe until it’s filled with blacks, greys and whites. Granted, I did make an entire video about not having personal style and not wanting to confine myself to a certain palette of colors. And yet, I have an overwhelming urge to purge my closet.

I’ve spent the better part of an hour (I know I should be working, but my professor hasn’t posted a rubric for the essay I’m working on and I don’t want to do it wrong, okay? Totally justified.) browsing the internet for essential new wardrobe staples. For example, this shirt. I have been wanting it for a good three months now waiting for it to be restocked, but guess who doesn’t have an extra $50 laying around? Me.

I don’t know. Maybe this will finally be the year that I overhaul my entire closet. I’ll keep you updated.
